Fix Coffee (Barbican)
Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:32PM We're not adverse to coffee here at TeaseMaid Towers as long as its sweet and milky. I popped to Fix on Whitecross Street with a spring in my step. It was one of those lovely days where the sun was shining there were no clouds in the sky and it was warm...summer is here! Whitecross Street has a really eclectic street food market on Fridays so there is no shortage of nibbles from all across the world.
Back to Fix. It is a converted old boozer which still maintains its aura of history. The decor is stripped back shabby chic with some really funny ironic touches and the 70's inspired leather couches are really comfortable. I opted to lounge in one of these and watch the world go by through the open French doors sipping on a quality cappuccino. There are the usual selection of coffees available although flat whites seem to be the drink du jour at the moment. You can help yourself to sarnies and pastries they are all very fresh. The milk is organic. Make your order and shuffle to the end of the counter to collect it. Your drink comes served in a paper cup which is ok in my book (tea on the other hand should be served in china). There are also tables to sit at, you'll be rubbing shoulders with trendy peeps working on their laptops sporting 'Hoxton hair'. On warm and sunny days you can sit outside too and do lots of people watching/gawping.
This place has a really good vibe, I was in there for over an hour just chilling out and contemplating having a Hoxton hair cut but decided against it as I'm from Surrey. This is a great place to go to with friends and lovers and even on business. This is what all coffee shops should be like (and not at all like those coffee chain places) this is a real gem....love it x
