Sketch (Mayfair)

When I first came up with the idea of this website the first place on my list of reviews to do was Sketch. I’d seen it on an episode of Masterchef and was totally bowled over by the care and attention to details specifically the cakes! So, I finally made it here...you can see from the photos just how great this place is. Anyway back to food and drink...I entered The Parlour and thought I’d fallen into a parallel universe where I lived in this room (total dream place).  I thought I’d have Earl Grey tea and a ‘small cake’ as all the reviews are beginning to have a knock on effect with my clothes (that are getting a little tight!) I had the raspberry tart and I have to stop right here as I’m having the most vivid flashbacks of eating this delightful thing. The raspberries were fresh, plump and sweet and had edible silver and green chocolate decoration and the pastry base was crumbly yet chewy...how did they do that? The tea was served in Maxwell Williams crockery (lilac rose design).  The music here is eclectic and at times a little too loud for 2pm on a Monday afternoon but I soon forgave that when they played Marvin Gaye – Whats’ Going On (album version). There are some very special surprises here which I won’t tell you about...you’ll just have to visit the powder room to believe it, all I’ll say is ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’.
